The home energy audit.
An audit should be expected to last 2-3 hours. A wealth of information about your home can be gained. The audit is designed to give the homeowner information about the type of heating, cooling water heating electronic equipment and their effects on electric and fossil fuel usage. The same systems are then checked for safety and then any issues are discussed with the homeowner. An air leakage test is performed that can indicate the condition of the house's exterior envelope and any necessary insulation and air sealing measures that may be necessary.
All of these findings will be discussed with the homeowner during the audit process and then thoroughly reviewed at the end of the audit.
The home energy audit is NO COST to the homeowner and is a excellent tool for determining the level of efficiency of a home. It quantifies the current combustion equiment present in the home as well as insulation and air sealing levels so that replacements can be proposed and hopefully have some if not all of the costs covered through many of the subsidies available in the NYSERDA programs.
